Many dead after planes crash in Montana and Tokyo

MONTANA / TOKYO (BNO NEWS) -- A small passenger plane carrying at least 17 people crashed at the safety zone of a Butte, Montana airport on Sunday, FAA spokesman Mike Fergus tells BNO News.

Fergus said the crash involved a Pilatus PC-12 aircraft. He did not know how many people were on board. "We think it might have been seventeen [on board], we think it's all fatalities but we don't know that for a fact. This is preliminary information", Fergus said. He said the plane went down 500 feet short of the runway in a safety zone. Local media said it crashed just outside the Holy Cross Cemetery, which is near Bert Mooney Airport.

The Pilatus aircraft departed from Orville, California at 11.10 a.m. local time and was en-route to Bozeman, MT before it crashed while attempting a diversion to Butte, MT. Local media reported that a number of children were among the casualties, reportedly going for a ski vacation.

Tokyo plane crash
Another plane, a cargo plane belonging to Federal Express Corp, crashed at Tokyo's Narita airport, Japanese media reported. The Kyodo news agency said it went down at around 6.50 a.m. local time and burst into flames. The crashed plane is reportedly an MD-11 which took off from Guangzhou, China and was manned by a pilot and co-pilot. Both crew members were confirmed killed in the crash, according to Asahi Television.
