Car slams into New York workshop for children

Up to 12 people are reported injured after a car slammed into a building that houses a Chanukah workshop for children in Woodmere, New York.

The accident happened around 3 pm after an elderly man driving a blue sport utility vehicle drove straight into the building at 1052 Broadway in Woodmere, where the Chabad of Five Towns was hosting its "Chanukah Wonderland" workshop and funhouse, CBS2 reported.

While the exact number of injuries is still unclear, reports range from 5 to as much as 12 injured, some of them children who are in critical condition.

CBS2 reported that at least 5 people are injured, including several who are in critical condition, while scanner traffic indicates at least 11 injured. Authorities on scene have declared a mass casualty incident.

The Yeshiva World News website reported that at least 12 people were injured and that a second vehicle had also crashed into the building, but BNO News was not immediately able to confirm the report.
