Explosion hits store in Spain’s Granada province, injuring 7

          At least seven people have been injured, one of them critically, after an explosion ripped through a butcher's shop in Dúrcal in Spain's Granada province, officials say. It is believed to have been a gas explosion. (more)

The incident happened at about 5:10 p.m. local time on Monday when a large explosion occurred at a butcher's shop on Calle Perez Carrillo, the main road through the municipality of Dúrcal, about 20 kilometers south of Granada city.

Local authorities said a total of seven people were injured in the blast, which caused heavy damage at the store and blew debris into the street. The store owner, a 52-year-old woman, is reported to be critically injured. Two other women also suffered serious injuries.

The explosion and resulting fire generated thick plumes of black smoke which was visible for kilometers, but firefighters quickly brought the fire under control. It is believed the explosion was caused by a gas bottle and there is no link to terrorism.
