A woman has been arrested after she scaled a fence in an attempt to gain access to the grounds of Buckingham Palace in London, British police say. Only few details were released but there is no indication of a link to terrorism. (more)

The incident happened at about 5:40 p.m. local time on Saturday when officers near Buckingham Palace observed a woman climbing the front gates of the palace. She was taken into custody before gaining access to the palace grounds.

The Metropolitan Police Service - also known as Scotland Yard - said the woman is believed to be in her 30s. She was taken to a central London police station after being arrested on suspicion of trespass and trespass on a designated site.

"The incident is not being treated as terrorist-related," police said in a statement, providing no further details.

Buckingham Palace, the home of Queen Elizabeth II, has been the site of security alerts in the past. The most notable incident happened in 1982, when an intruder broke into Buckingham Palace, stealing wine from the bedroom of Prince Charles and breaking into the queen's bedroom where she was sleeping.
