              As many as 97 people have been killed after Boko Haram militants attacked two villages in the Monguno local government area of Nigeria's northeastern state of Borno, according to news reports. Witnesses told the local Daily Post newspaper that the militants ordered all the men in the villages to group together, after which the militants opened fire, killing at least 48 people and injuring others. The AFP news agency, citing witnesses, reported that at least 97 people had been killed.

              BP will pay $18.7 billion, the largest settlement with a single entity in American history, to settle civil claims from the 2010 Deepwater Horizon spill in the Gulf of Mexico, the U.S. Justice Department says. The agreement with the states of Alabama, Florida, Louisiana, Mississippi and Texas also includes settlement of claims made by more than 400 local government entities. The settlement will be paid out over a period of 18 years.

              Total nonfarm payroll employment in the United States increased by 223,000 in June, the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics reports, and the unemployment rate declined to 5.3 percent.               Authorities are responding to reports of an active shooter at the Navy Yard in Washington, D.C., though there has been no word on whether shots were actually fired.               Eurogroup president Jeroen Dijsselbloem says there are "no grounds for further talks at this point" after Greece rejected previous proposals and decided to push forward with a bailout referendum. "There will be no talks in the coming days, either at Eurogroup level or between the Greek authorities and the institutions on proposals or financial arrangements," he said in a video statement.               Slovakia's finance minister Peter Kažimír says the Eurogroup is united to wait for the outcome of Sunday's referendum in Greece before any further talks, he said on his Twitter account. The Eurogroup has not yet commented on the outcome of today's conference call, but the European Council says Eurogroup president Jeroen Dijsselbloem will release a written statement "later this evening."

              Department store Macy's says it has decided to terminate its relationship with business magnate Donald Trump, citing his controversial comments last month in which he referred to some Mexican immigrants as rapists, drug users and criminals. "Macy's is a company that stands for diversity and inclusion. We have no tolerance for discrimination in any form," the company said in a statement.
