 2 yrs | Editor’s Note: Wall Street braces for opening-bell sell-off

Wall Street is bracing for a massive opening-bell sell-off as the economic slowdown in China continues to fuel global growth fears. The Shanghai Composite in China closed down 8.5 percent today, its worst close since 2007, while London's FTSE 100 index was down 4 percent in early afternoon trade. Major markets in France and Germany were also down sharply, by 4.6% and 4.4% respectively. As of 9:15 a.m. ET, futures for major U.S. markets indicate a fall of 783 points (4.82%) for the Dow Jones, 208 points (4.96%) for Nasdaq and 93.75 points (4.76%) for the S&P 500.

2 yrs | Editor’s Note: Press lids called at White House and in Vienna, no Iran deal tonight

Officials at both the White House in Washington, D.C. and at the Palais Coburg hotel in Vienna have called a press lid, meaning that no further news is expected until the morning, and ruling out the possibility of an imminent announcement on a nuclear accord with Iran. Reports had circulated throughout the day that claimed a long-term nuclear deal between world powers and Iran would be announced within hours, but a midnight meeting between P5+1 foreign ministers appears to have ended without an agreement.

2 yrs | Editor’s Note: Conflicting reports about Navy Yard incident

BNO News is continuing to monitor reports about an incident at the Washington Navy Yard. U.S. Parks Police said officers were responding to reports of an active shooter, but ABC News cites a defense official as saying that the incident is result of a "suspicious person." Local TV channel WUSA-9, meanwhile, cited sources as saying that there were two shooters, one a black male and the other a white male, but those claims have not been confirmed. The U.S. Navy has only said the Navy Yard is on lockdown, adding that "no incident can be confirmed as of yet." There have been no reports of casualties as of 8:30 a.m. ET.
