              The jury in the Colorado movie massacre trial has reached a verdict in the death penalty phase against convicted gunman James Holmes, says court spokesman Rob McCallum. Arapahoe County District Judge Samour will take the bench at 5 p.m. MT (7 pm ET) to announce the verdict. No cameras will be allowed in the courtroom. The jury, consisting of nine women and three men, had been deliberating since Thursday afternoon whether Holmes should be executed or serve life in prison without the possibility of parole.

              Jurors in the Colorado movie massacre trial have reached a verdict on whether mitigating factors such as mental illness outweigh aggravating ones in deciding whether gunman James Holmes should be eligible for the death penalty. Court spokesman Rob McCallum said the verdict will be read out at 12:30 p.m. MT (2:30 p.m. ET). If just one juror finds that the mitigating factors outweigh aggravating ones, Holmes will be sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole. If the jury finds that the mitigating factors do not outweigh the aggravating ones, the trial will move into a third phase to determine if the death penalty should be used.
