A man has been shot dead outside Jerusalem’s central bus station after stabbing an elderly woman while attempting to board a bus, police say. It marks the second attack in Jerusalem in 3 hours. (more)

The incident happened just before 7 p.m. local time on Wednesday when an attacker described as an Arab man tried to get on a bus outside the central bus station. Video from the scene showed police firing shots and a man, believed to be the attacker, laying on the ground.

Micky Rosenfield, a spokesman for Israel Police, confirmed the attacker had been shot and killed. He said the victim, a 70-year-old woman, suffered moderate to serious injuries. She was treated on the bus before being rushed to hospital.

After the stabbing attack, Israeli security forces searched a nearby mall to rule out a second attacker.

Hours earlier, a man armed with a knife was shot dead elsewhere in Jerusalem. The incident, outside Damascus Gate, was captured on video by an MSNBC crew reporting from the area.
