A mass shooting with at least five victims has been reported at a homeless encampment on Airport Way South in Seattle, fire officials say, but only few details were immediately available. No arrests have been made so far. (more)

The incident happened at about 7:21 p.m. PT on Tuesday when police and medics were called to a "multiple casualty incident" at 1500 Airport Way South, which is in the vicinity of South Atlantic Street. A witness reported seeing at least five victims, but their conditions were not immediately known.

The Seattle Police Department confirmed that it was responding to a shooting on Airport Way South and South Atlantic Street, but provided no details about the circumstances of the incident. Investigators are looking for at least two suspects and no arrests have been made so far.

Photos and video from the scene showed a major emergency response which included dozens of police vehicles, ambulances and fire trucks.

Tuesday's shooting happened just minutes before Seattle Mayor Ed Murray delivered a special, televised address to give an update on the city's efforts to address homelessness. Murray and the City Council declared a state of emergency in November to address a growing crisis of people experiencing unsheltered homelessness in Seattle and King County.

"Moments ago, I was informed by the Seattle Police Department that there was a shooting with multiple victims at Airport Way and South Atlantic," Mayor Murray said at the conclusion of his speech. "It is an active scene. Police are at the location right now and both Chief O'Toole and I will brief the press and the city as soon as we have more information. The scene is an active crime scene. At this point we don't know if it's safe."

Other details were not immediately available.
