3 police officers injured in shooting on Chicago’s West Side

Three Chicago police officers have been injured in an apparent exchange of gunfire on the city's West Side, a police spokesman says. A fourth person - believed to be a suspect - was shot and killed. (more)

The incident happened just before 10 p.m. CT on Monday as officers were responding to a confrontation in the courtyard of an apartment building in the 3700 block of West Polk Street. Other details about the circumstances were not immediately available.

Anthony Guglielmi, a spokesman for the Chicago Police Department, confirmed that three officers had been shot. The officers, one of whom was shot in the back, one who was shot in the chest, and a third who was shot in the foot, were taken to Stroger Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

A fourth person, believed to be a suspect, was shot and killed.
