The attack happened just before 10 a.m. local time on Tuesday when a vehicle was rammed through the embassy's gate and exploded, according to the state-run Kabar news agency, which described the incident as a suspected suicide bombing.

The Kyrgyz Ministry of Health confirmed that one person inside the vehicle was killed and three other people - believed to be workers at the Chinese embassy - were injured. Their injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.

A witness told the private AKIpress news agency that a Mitsubishi Delica-type minivan crashed through the embassy's western gate at "full speed" before exploding near the Ambassador's Residence. The blast damaged several buildings, including a supermarket near the embassy complex.

"It was a terrorist attack. Three embassy staff members, all Kyrgyz nationals, were injured. A suicide bomber died at the scene," deputy prime minister Zhenish Razakov told the KyrTAG news agency. He provided no information about who may have been responsible.

The Kyrgyz news agency 24 reported that both the Chinese Embassy and the U.S. Embassy have been evacuated.
