Gunfire has erupted during the WEBN Riverfest Fireworks in downtown Cincinnati, causing panic in the crowd, witnesses say. One person has been shot and two additional people have been shot in a second shooting elsewhere.
The first incident happened at around 9:40 p.m. on Sunday when multiple gunshots were fired in the area near the U.S. Bank Arena. Crowds of people who were watching the fireworks nearby fled from the scene in panic.
Police and other emergency services responded to the scene, and the Cincinnati Fire Department confirmed that one person had been shot near Broadway and East Mehring Way. The victim's condition was not immediately known.
Witnesses in the area said the shooting caused panic among some spectators, but others further away could not hear the gunshots because of the fireworks, causing confusion. Photos from the scene showed a victim - believed to be a man who appeared to be conscious - being taken into an ambulance.
It is unclear if a suspect is in custody, or if the shooting has any links to the fireworks.
About an hour later, a second shooting happened about 2.5 miles away on 9th Avenue near the intersection with Vine Street in Dayton. Two people were shot there, but there was no immediate indication that the shooting is linked to the first one. The conditions of those shot is unknown.
