The incident happened at around 1:20 p.m. PT on Monday when witnesses reported hearing a loud bang, after which thick plumes of smoke were seen rising from the area, briefly sparking fears that there had been an explosion at the hospital.
A spokesperson for San Diego Police said a fire had broken out in a construction trailer but added that there was no indication of an explosion. Some people also reported hearing what they thought were gunshots, but authorities confirmed that no shooting had taken place.
The cause of Monday's fire was not immediately known, but there were no reports of injuries.
