The incident was reported at 11:58 a.m. on Friday when the Juneau Police Department received a report about a woman who was bleeding from the head inside a townhouse that is located in the 3600 block of Amalga Street.
"JPD officers and medics with Capital City Fire Rescue responded," said Lt. David Campbell of the Juneau Police Department. "It was determined that she had been shot in the head, but she was still alive [at the time]."
The woman was taken by ambulance to the Bartlett Regional Hospital, from which she was airlifted to a hospital in Seattle, where there was no immediate word on her condition. The victim was identified as a 19-year-old Juneau resident, though her name has not been made public.
"The townhouse and surrounding area has been secured by police and JPD Detectives actively working scene," Lt. Campbell said, adding that it is still unclear how many people were inside the townhouse when the shooting occurred.
