Police and other emergency services in New Jersey are at Rutgers University Business School in New Brunswick after multiple people were stabbed. At least 3 people have been injured, including the suspect. (more)

The incident began at around 2:45 p.m. ET on Friday when Rutgers University said a stabbing had been reported at the business school. It initially prompted the school to issue a lockdown but it was lifted about 45 minutes later.

"Suspect in custody. Area is safe. Police investigation ongoing," the university said in an update at 3:29 p.m. ET. Details about the exact circumstances of the incident were not immediately available, but initial reports indicate that there are multiple victims.

Initial reports suggested that as many as 5 people had been stabbed, but Rutgers University said a total of 3 people were being treated for injuries. Among those injured is the suspect, who has been taken into custody.

"The investigation is ongoing and additional details will be released as they become available," the university said in a statement. It provided no information about the conditions of those injured or a possible motive for the stabbings.
