"After thorough investigative work, a 27-year-old male suspect was developed and taken into custody today," said Philadelphia police spokeswoman Tanya Little. "A search warrant was executed and all three computers were recovered from the suspect at his residence."

Office Little said the suspect, whose identity was not immediately released, has a lengthy criminal history. "This was a random theft from [an] auto and the male had no indication who these complainants were or that they were affiliated with any campaign work," she said.

The incident was reported at 9:22 p.m. ET on Friday when officers were called to a report of a theft in the 100 block of Brown Street. Upon arrival, 4 men who work for Clinton's presidential campaign told the officers that their vehicle had been broken into.

The men explained that they parked their 2016 Buick Enclave on Brown Street at about 8 p.m., after which they went to a restaurant in the 900 block of North 2nd Street. When they returned to the vehicle at 9:15 p.m. they observed that the rear passenger window was broken.

Taken from the vehicle were 3 backpacks, each containing a MackBook Pro and various other items. The computers are believed to contain scheduling information surrounding Clinton's presidential campaign, as well as personal information.

Philadelphia Police said it had notified the U.S. Secret Service and the Department of Homeland Security, calling it a standard procedure in such cases.
