The incident began on early Thursday morning when police received a report of a student with a gun at Mueller Park Jr. High School. It is believed that at least one shot was fired after which an active shooter situation was declared.
The Bountiful City Police Department confirmed that a suspect had been detained but the Davis School District said the school will remain on lockdown until police officers have given the all clear. A search of the school was still ongoing just after 9 a.m.
There have been no reports of injuries, according to police.
"Per Davis County Schools District, school will remain in session after police complete clear of school," Bountiful police said, adding that students have not be evacuated. If parents do want to pick up their children, they can do so by going to the LDS church across from the school.
