Explosion and fire at business in Grandview

Firefighters and other emergency services in Missouri are responding to a large explosion and fire at a business in the area of 140th Street and West Outer Road, officials say. It is believed ammunition may be involved. (more)

The incident happened just after 7:15 p.m. on Tuesday when a large explosion occurred at a lawn care business in the area of 140th Street, close to Interstate 49. Residents across the region reported hearing and feeling the explosion.

"[Grandview Fire is] on scene at business near 140th and West Outer Road. Massive explosion followed by series of smaller explosions," the City of Grandview said. "[Firefighters are] waiting to go inside for their safety. Believe ammunition inside may have caused explosions."

It was not immediately known if anyone was injured or what type of ammunition may have been involved. The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) is responding to the scene, city officials say.
