2 people shot on Beaver Avenue in Des Moines

One person has been killed and another is injured after a shooting in the 2800 block of Beaver Avenue in Des Moines, police say, making it the city's 10th homicide of the year. No arrests were immediately made. (more)

The incident happened at about 9:18 p.m. on Tuesday when Des Moines Police Department patrol officers were called to reports of a shooting in the 2800 block of Beaver Avenue, which is near the intersection with Urbandale Avenue.

"The Des Moines Police Department Communication Center received multiple calls from residents who reported hearing gunfire," said police spokesman Sgt. Paul Parizek. "Officers arrived to the scene at 2805 Beaver Avenue and found two adult males suffering from gunshot injury."

Both victims were transported by Des Moines Fire rescue personnel to local hospitals, where one of the victims died of his injuries, Sgt. Parizek said. The condition of the second victim was not immediately released.

There was no immediate word on the circumstances of Tuesday's shooting, which marks the 10th homicide in Des Moines so far this year. "Several witnesses have been transported to the police station for interviews," the spokesman said, adding that investigators are processing the scene for evidence.
