Saint Louis University (SLU) in St. Louis is on lockdown after reports of shots being fired outside Marchetti East, but evidence of a shooting has not been found, officials say. A male student has been taken into custody. (more)

The incident began at around 5:15 p.m. when an armed man wearing a black hoodie was seen at Spring Hall on campus, prompting the university to issue an alert to students to advise them to stay clear of the area.

A short time later, reports came in of a possible shooting outside Marchetti East, prompting the university to issue a shelter in place. St. Louis Police later said they had no confirmation of any shots fired on or near campus.

A male student was taken into custody on the SLU campus, though authorities have not provided any information about what may have led to the security scare. "No injuries have been reported," a university spokesperson said.

The lockdown was still in effect as of 6:30 p.m. as school officials were awaiting confirmation that the detained student is in fact the suspect. Students living in Spring Hall have been relocated to Simon Rec as a precaution.

Saint Louis University (SLU) is a private Roman Catholic university with one campus in St. Louis, Missouri, and another in Madrid, Spain. The university is currently being attended by nearly 13,000 students.
