* The U.S. military says it has successfully destroyed an intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM) in a key test of the missile defense system. It comes amid growing concerns over North Korea's advancing missile program. MORE:

* A top UN official has warned that war-torn Yemen is facing "total social, economic and institutional collapse." Nearly 7 million people are now on the brink of famine and cholera is spreading. "Crisis is not coming, it is not looming, it is here today - on our watch and ordinary people are paying the price," he said.

* Manuel Noriega, the dictator who ruled Panama from 1983 until 1989 when he was removed from power during the U.S. invasion of Panama, has died at age 83. Noriega was allowed to leave prison in January to undergo surgery to remove a brain tumor, but his condition continued to deteriorate.

* At least 9 people have been killed and scores of homes have been destroyed after Cyclone Mora hit the eastern coast of Bangladesh. The death toll is expected to rise. More than 300,000 people were evacuated ahead of the storm.

* The man accused of stabbing 2 men to death on a train in Portland, Oregon, appeared in court on Tuesday, yelling: "You call it terrorism, I call it patriotism." The attack allegedly happened when the men intervened in an anti-Muslim rant.

* White House Communications Director Michael Dubke has submitted his resignation. The White House said Dubke had "expressed his desire to leave the White House" and said it was not an indication of a reorganization in the West Wing.

* Singer Ariana Grande will hold a concert in Manchester on Sunday to honor and raise money for the victims of last week's attack. She will be joined by Justin Bieber, Coldplay, Katy Perry, Miley Cyrus, Pharrell Williams, Usher, Take That and Niall Horan.
