The incident began at around 5 p.m. on Friday when passengers at the airport were warned about an active shooter, and some passengers said they were evacuated as a result. It was not immediately clear what prompted the incident.

"Not sure if there really was a shooter but 10 worst minutes of my life was just spent hiding at Calgary airport just now," Mich Atagana said on Twitter. And Tamara Elliott wrote: "Nothing like running from what you think might be an active shooter in the airport to get your vacation off to an interesting start."

"The situation at the YYC Airport is resolved. The call we received has been determined as unfounded," Calgary Police said in a brief update, providing no further information. They said there are no public safety concerns and there are no injuries.

Calgary International Airport said the initial reports about an incident were found to be incorrect, but the airport activated its safety protocols as a precaution. "[Operations] are returning back to normal," the airport said.
