Harford Community College (HCC) in Maryland was put on lockdown on Saturday over fears of an active shooter on campus, but nothing was found and no one was injured. An investigation is now underway. (more)

The incident began just after 2 p.m. on Saturday when deputies received a call of a possible armed suspect and shots fired on the school's campus. The college also activated its emergency procedures and sent out an alert to students.

"ALERT!!! ALERT!!! ALERT!!! At time there is an ACTIVE SHOOTER SITUATION. The location is HSC Grounds and Fields," the initial alert said. "AVOID, SHELTER IN PLACE, AVIOD LOCATION UNTIL SITUATION IS CONTAINED."

A short time later, the Harford County Sheriff's Office (HCSO) said there was no confirmation that any shots had been fired and no injuries have been reported.

"HCSO was on scene in 5 minutes and secured the area," the sheriff's office said in a statement. "After speaking with multiple witnesses it has been determined no shots were fired. A person reported someone holding a possible firearm and others reported seeing a person with a mask."

Deputies searched all buildings on the school's campus as a precaution but no one matching the description could be found, after which the all clear was issued at 4:20 p.m. "We do not believe that there is any threat to the community at this time. We appreciate your patience," the sheriff's office said.

No arrests have been made.
