The incident happened at about 1:40 p.m. ET on Monday when officers were called to a vehicle that had struck a group of pedestrians near the Logan taxi pool in East Boston, just a short distance from Logan International Airport.

Boston Emergency Medical Services said at least 10 people had been taken to area hospitals, including one person who was reported to be in a serious condition. The other 9 victims are not believed to have suffered life-threatening injuries.

The accident happened in a break area where drivers typically gather as they wait for customers.

There was no indication of a link to terrorism and investigators pointed to operator error as a likely cause. The driver - who was identified as a 56-year-old man from Cambridge - remained at the scene and was being interviewed by police.

"At this preliminary point in the investigation, there is no information that suggests the crash was intentional," Massachusetts State Police said in a statement. "We have seized his cab for further investigation. Our Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Section and Crimes Scene Services Section are on-scene assisting investigators and troopers from Troop F."
