A man has been found dead on a sidewalk at East Bakersfield High School in Bakersfield, according to the Kern County Sheriff's Office. Investigators believe that the body was left there after he died at another location. (more)

The incident was reported at 12:48 a.m. on Wednesday when Kern County Sheriff’s deputies responded to East Bakersfield High School, located at 2200 Quincy Street, for a report of a person who was possibly deceased on the west side of the School.

"When deputies arrived they spoke to the reporting party," said Ray Pruitt, a spokesman for the sheriff's office. "He led them to the body of an obviously deceased adult male lying on the sidewalk. Deputies examined the body and determined the decedent had been deceased for a period of time."

Homicide detectives responded to the scene and have taken over the investigation.

"The decedent did not appear to have any obvious signs of trauma, and based on the condition of the body detectives believe it is possible the decedent died at another location and was left off by an unknown person or persons where his body was later located," Pruitt explained.

There was no immediate word on the identity of the victim, including his age or whether he has any links to the high school. "An autopsy will be scheduled to identify the decedent and determine the cause and manner of death," Pruitt added.

Anyone with information about this case is asked to call the Kern County Sheriff's Office at 661-861-3110 or Secret Witness at 661-322-4040.
