Shooting scare causes lockdown in Pahrump, Nevada

PUBLISHED Mon, October 02, 2017 - 2:22pm EDT

Schools and government buildings in the town of Pahrump in Nye County, Nevada, were put on lockdown Monday after reports of a man with a gun, local officials say. The gunman could not be found and there was no indication that shots had been fired.

The incident began at about 10:30 a.m. PT on Monday when officers were called to a school in Pahrump for "numerous" reports of a man with a gun. Later reports said officers were investigating reports about a possible shooting.

As a precaution, all government offices, including the courthouse on Basin Avenue, were closed while police were searching the area.

"The Nye County Sheriff's Office cleared all Pahrump schools including Manse Elementary, Floyd Elementary, Hafen Elementary, Rosemary Clarke Middle School, and Pahrump Valley High School," the sheriff's office said in a statement. "No man with a gun was found."

The all-clear was later given and the lockdowns were lifted. Deputies remain on the campuses of the school.
