Police investigate report of shooting in Stephenville, Texas

Police and other emergency services in Texas are investigating reports of a shooting in the city of Stephenville in Erath County, local officials say. Residents in the area have been advised to shelter in place. (more)

The incident began at about 5:32 p.m. on Tuesday when the Erath County Sheriff’s Department received a call of an active shooter in the area of FM 914 and CR 454. Deputies and police officers have responded to the scene.

Police have not said whether the report of a shooting had been confirmed, but they later said the incident was no longer being treated as an active shooter situation. There were no immediate reports of any injuries.

The suspect is described as a white male with brown hair, wearing blue jeans and a blue Denim shirt. He is believed to be on foot in the area, according to a statement from the Stephenville Police Department, which provided no other information.

"Citizens are advised to avoid the area and stay inside. Call 911 if you see the suspect," police said.
