Police and other emergency services in England are responding to reports of a hostage situation at a bowling alley in Nuneaton. The area is on lockdown but only few details have been released by Warwickshire Police. (more)

The incident began on Sunday afternoon when officers were called to MFA Bowl at Bermuda Park, which is located just to the south of the town of Nuneaton in Warwickshire. A large number of emergency services have responded.

According to initial reports, a man who is armed with a shotgun has taken several hostages at MFA Bowl, though police have yet to confirm that. Venues in the area - including a cinema and the Bermuda Adventure Soft Play World - are all on lockdown. Roads are closed.

"Officers are currently dealing with an ongoing incident at Bermuda Park, Nuneaton. Please avoid the area," Warwickshire Police said in a statement, adding that the incident is not linked to terrorism. Local media reported that more than 30 armed officers are at the scene.

One man who spoke to the Coventry Telegraph said he was visiting the bowling alley with his two sons and, when he came out of the changing facilities, he found the bowling alley empty apart from a man with a shotgun. The gunman told him to get out, which he did.

There were no immediate reports of shots being fired.

A spokesman for the West Midlands Ambulance Service said they were called at 3:40 p.m. "We currently have an ambulance, two paramedic officers, the Hazardous Area Response Team, and an Emergency Planning Manager at the scene," he said.

The Warwickshire and Northamptonshire Air Ambulance was also called to the scene, but they were later cleared to leave and did not treat any victims. "Warwickshire Police are urging the public to keep away from the area at this time," the spokesman said.
