UPDATE: The lockdown has been lifted. The suspect is not yet in custody but authorities believe he is no longer near the campus. All classes at Skagit Valley College have been canceled and normal operations will resume on Tuesday.

Skagit Valley College in Mount Vernon, Washington, is on lockdown as police pursue an armed suspect near campus, the school says. Only few details were immediately available but students have been told to shelter in place.

The incident began just after 1 p.m. PT on Monday when students received a Rave Alert, telling them that lockdown procedures had been initiated. "Police are pursuing an armed suspect around MV Campus," the alert said.

In a post online, the college added: "Please discontinue all activities and remain in your present location. Lock your door. Close all windows and blinds, and turn off lights. .. The safety and security of the College community is our top priority."

Police said the armed suspect was last seen near the ballfield and jogging trails near campus, though specific details have not been released. The college said the lockdown is a precautionary measure and there is no indication of an active shooter. No injuries were immediately reported.

Centennial Elementary School is also on lockdown as a precaution.

The Skagit Valley Herald reported that the suspect is 26-year-old Curtis Cameron, who is wanted for crimes related to explosives, assaults and burglaries. Officers reportedly spotted Cameron in a vehicle on Monday but he took off on foot.
