A 15-year-old Arizona girl and her 21-year-old boyfriend have been arrested after they confessed to killing the teen's father, deputies said on Tuesday, a day after the man's body was found at a residence near Phoenix.

The incident was first reported at 12:54 p.m. on Monday when the girl called 911 and told dispatchers that she witnessed a former boyfriend shoot her father at their home earlier in the day. She claimed to have fled the residence with her younger sister.

Deputies from the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office responded to the residence in Tonopah, a community along Interstate 10 about 48 miles (77 kilometers) west of downtown Phoenix. The deputies subsequently found the body of the teen's father, 59-year-old John Norton.

"After processing the scene and interviewing several investigative leads and witnesses, detectives developed a strong suspicion that John Norton’s 15 year old daughter and her current boyfriend, 21-year-old Daniel Stroh, were responsible for the homicide," sheriff's spokesman Joaquin Enriquez said.

During subsequent interviews, both Daniel Stroh and the victim's 15-year-old daughter confessed to the murder, which they admitted had been planned out several days in advance. Both the man and the girl were taken into custody.

Details about Stroh's relationship with the girl and their possible motive were not immediately known.

Stroh was booked on 1st Degree Murder, Conspiracy to Commit 1st Degree Murder, and Tampering with Evidence. The girl, whose identity was not released due to her age, was charged with 1 count of Conspiracy to Commit 1st Degree Murder and one count of Tampering with Evidence.
