The wedding is expected to take place in the spring of 2018, although specific details about the ceremony were not immediately released. The couple will live in Nottingham Cottage at Kensington Palace, one of the royal residences in London.

"His Royal Highness and Ms. Markle became engaged in London earlier this month," Clarence House said in a statement. "Prince Harry has informed Her Majesty The Queen and other close members of his family. Prince Harry has also sought and received the blessing of Ms. Markle's parents."

In a separate statement, Markle's parents - Thomas Markle and Doria Ragland - said they were happy and excited about the couple's decision to get married.

"We are incredibly happy for Meghan and Harry," they said. "Our daughter has always been a kind and loving person. To see her union with Harry, who shares the same qualities, is a source of great joy for us as parents. We wish them a lifetime of happiness and are very excited for their future together."

Prince William and his wife Kate, the Duchess of Cambridge, also welcomed the news. "We are very excited for Harry and Meghan. It has been wonderful getting to know Meghan and to see how happy she and Harry are together," they said in a statement.

Buckingham Palace said Queen Elizabeth II and her husband Prince Philip, the Duke of Edinburgh, are "delighted for the couple and wish them every happiness."

Prince Harry, who is 33, is currently fifth in the line of succession to the thrones of 16 independent countries, including the United Kingdom, Canada, and Australia. He follows his father Prince Charles, his brother Prince William, and his brother's children, Prince George and Princess Charlotte.

Markle, who is 36 and was previously married to Trevor Engelson, is well-known for her role as Rachel Zane on the legal drama series "Suits." Markle's relationship to Prince Harry was first confirmed in November 2016, when Kensington Palace said they were a "few months" into their relationship.
