The incident began at about 7 p.m. PT on Tuesday when officers were called to reports of shots being fired at The Montage condominium complex, which is located at 255 N Sierra Street in the downtown area. One report said the suspect had fired from an elevated position.

"Reno friends, please stay clear of downtown," Dusty Wunderlich said on his Twitter account. "There is an active shooter in the Montage. Multiple shots two floors above me."

Just before 8:30 p.m., police confirmed that the suspect had been taken into custody and there were no reports of injuries among officers or the public. It was not immediately clear whether the suspect himself had been injured during the arrest.

The suspect was reportedly hallucinating and at one point held a woman hostage, though further details were not yet known. A large number of emergency services, including heavily-armed police officers, hostage negotiators, and ambulances, responded to the scene.

During the active shooter situation, Reno police urged the public to avoid the downtown area, but the all clear was given just before 8:30 p.m. Roads in the area are expected to remain closed for hours while police continue to investigate the circumstances of Tuesday's shooting.
