              Greece's top administrative court, the Council of State, has rejected an appeal by two citizens against Sunday's referendum on a bailout package from creditors. The decision clears the way for the referendum to go ahead as scheduled.

 2 yrs | Dutch man who entered TV studios to demand airtime sentenced to 15 months

              A 20-year-old man who entered the studios of Dutch news broadcaster NOS in January to demand to be put on television has been sentenced to 15 months in prison, plus a suspended sentence of another 15 months, the court says. Tarik Z. was found guilty of hostage-taking, making threats, and possession of a weapon for entering the NOS studios while carrying what later turned out to be a fake gun. The incident happened moments before the 8 p.m. broadcast, forcing the channel to go off air until Tarik Z. was arrested by police. The sentence was lower because video of the incident was broadcast around the world without Tarik Z.'s face being made unrecognizable.

              The French government says it "cannot act" on a public request for asylum from Julian Assange, citing his legal situation. The WikiLeaks founder, who is holed up in the Ecuadorian embassy in London to avoid extradition to Sweden over sex crime allegations. In an open letter published in Le Monde, Assange asked French President Fran├žois Hollande to grant him asylum to protect him from "the political persecution of which I am now the subject."               Malaysian investigators probing a controversial government investment fund believe nearly $700 million ended up in the personal bank accounts of Malaysia's prime minister, Najib Razak, according to documents obtained by the Wall Street Journal. The report does not identify the original source of the money or what happened to the deposits. Razak dismissed the accusations as political smear tactics, urging the media to "seek the truth."               Police in the New Zealand region of Canterbury are investigating the deaths of a woman and three children at a residence in Tinwald. Investigators have not commented on how the victims died. A team of 30 including investigators and forensic staff are working at the scene. The identities of the victims have not yet been released.  2 yrs | Episcopal Church overwhelmingly approves religious weddings for gay couples

              The Episcopal Church has voted overwhelmingly to amend Canon I.18 in order to allow clergy to perform religious weddings for same-sex couples. The proposal passed 173-27 in the House of Deputies, while six members abstained. Canon I.18 previously defined marriage as a "physical and spiritual union of a man and a woman." The new rules allow clergy to decline to perform the ceremonies if they oppose same-sex marriage.

              A man identified as Raymond Carter has been arrested for allegedly burning down a CVS Pharmacy in Baltimore during the riots in late April, ATF Baltimore spokesman Special Agent Dave Cheplak says. Carter was taken into custody in South Baltimore after a brief foot chase.

              The Dutch Safety Board, which leads the international investigation into the crash of Malaysia Airlines Flight 17 in Ukraine last year, says in a letter to the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) that it expects to publish its final report in the first half of October. "The draft final reports on the investigation into the crash and the investigation pertaining to flight routes were made available to the accredited representatives of the participating States on Tuesday, 2 June. In accordance with ICAO Annex 13, they have sixty days to submit comments on the reports," the Board said in its letter. [full statement and letter attached]

              The fire, which was reported around 9 p.m. Tuesday night at the Mount Zion African Methodist Episcopal Church in Greeleyville, SC, was not the work of an arsonist, according to the AP citing a federal law enforcement official. The source spoke on the condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to discuss the case publicly. The fire is still under investigation.

              Business magnate Donald Trump is suing Univision for $500 million after the Spanish-language TV network terminated its contract with the Miss Universe Organization and decided that it would not broadcast the upcoming Miss USA pageant that is scheduled to take place on July 12. "Under the contract, Univision is required to broadcast the pageant live on television in Spanish," the Trump Organization said in a statement, saying that Univision's decision was "in reality, a politically motivated attempt to suppress Mr. Trump's freedom of speech."
