              Max Clifford, who was one of Britain's best known celebrity publicists, has been charged with one count of indecent assault that he allegedly committed in 1981, according to the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS). Details about the allegation were not immediately released, but Scotland Yard added that the incident involved a woman aged over 16. Clifford was last year sentenced to eight years following his conviction for eight sex assaults on young girls and women. He will appear in court on July 21.

              The French government says it "cannot act" on a public request for asylum from Julian Assange, citing his legal situation. The WikiLeaks founder, who is holed up in the Ecuadorian embassy in London to avoid extradition to Sweden over sex crime allegations. In an open letter published in Le Monde, Assange asked French President Fran├žois Hollande to grant him asylum to protect him from "the political persecution of which I am now the subject."
