 1 yr | Active search underway for 12 missing Marines after 2 helicopters collide off Hawaiian island of Oahu

              Two Marine CH-53 helicopters have collided off the Hawaiian island of Oahu just before midnight on Thursday, according to the U.S. coast guard. Each aircraft had six people aboard and wreckage has been spotted off the coast, near the town of Haleiwa. The marine corps has tweeted that there is an active search and rescue underway. There was no immediate word on what caused the collision or if any survivors have been found.

 1 yr | Tsunami advisory ends for Hawaii after 3-feet wave near Hilo

              A tsunami advisory that was issued for the state of Hawaii has ended, the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center reports. Tsunami waves of up to 3 feet (0.93 meter) above normal sea levels were observed near Hilo on the Big Island, though there were no reports of damage or casualties. The advisory, which is lower than a warning, was issued after Wednesday night's major earthquake off the coast of central Chile.

 1 yr | Tsunami advisory issued for Hawaii, no major tsunami expected

              The Pacific Tsunami Warning Center has upgraded the tsunami watch for Hawaii to a tsunami advisory. No major tsunami is expected, but sea level changes and strong currents may pose a hazard to swimmers, boaters and people near the shore at beaches and in harbors and marines. "The threat may continue for several hours after the initial wave arrival," the center says. The earliest arrival time is 3:11 a.m. HST.
