  2 yrs | ‘The Love Bug’ star Dean Jones dead at 84

              Actor Dean Jones, who is best remembered for his roles in Disney films "The Love Bug" and "That Darn Cat," but also for other movies such as "Beethoven," has died, Variety reports. He was 84. He died in Los Angeles on Tuesday after previously being diagnosed with Parkinson's disease.

  2 yrs | Los Angeles City Council votes to unanimously support 2024 Summer Olympic bid

              Los Angeles City Council voted 15-0 on Tuesday to unanimously support the Los Angeles bid to host the 2024 Summer Olympics and Paralympic Games. The vote authorizes Mayor Eric Garcetti to pursue the bid and allows the U.S. Olympic Committee to name L.A. as the designated American candidate for those Games. The International Olympic Committee will name the host city on Sept. 15, 2017, in Lima, Peru.

  2 yrs | Wes Craven, director of ‘Nightmare on Elm Street’ and ‘Scream,’ dead at 76

              Wes Craven, the creator of "A Nightmare on Elm Street" and the director of the "Scream" movies, died in Los Angeles on Sunday after a battle with brain cancer, his family said in a statement. He was 76. "It is with deep sadness we inform you that Wes Craven passed away at 1PM on Sunday, August 30 after battling brain cancer," the statement said. "Craven was surrounded by love, in the presence of his family at his Los Angeles home." He is survived by his wife, Iya Labunka, three children and a sister.

 2 yrs | Vehicle strikes pedestrians in downtown Los Angeles, 7 injured

              At least 7 people have been injured after a vehicle struck pedestrians at two separate intersections in downtown Los Angeles, says Brian Humphrey, a spokesman for the Los Angeles Fire Department. Two victims were struck by the vehicle at the intersection of 8th Street and South Main Street, and five more victims were struck at the next intersection, at 9th Street and South Main Street. Their conditions were not immediately known. The driver of the vehicle was taken into custody. CBS Los Angeles reported that the crashes happened after police attempted to pull over the driver for a red light violation.

 2 yrs | ‘Jackass’ star Steve-O arrested in Los Angeles after climbing crane

              'Jackass' star Steve-O has been arrested after climbing onto a large crane at a construction site in Hollywood, police say. Numerous emergency services had responded to the scene after receiving reports of a person on top of the crane, believe a person was in need of rescue. Steve-O, before being arrested, posted a 17-second video online from the top of the crane, writing: "Anyone wanna bail me out of jail?" LAPD Lt. Michael Ling told the Los Angeles Times that Steve-O, whose real name is Stephen Glover, is expected to be booked on suspicion of trespassing, setting a firework without a permit, and conspiracy to commit a crime.
