2 yrs | NASA telescope discovers Earth-like planet in star’s ‘habitable zone’

NASA's planet-hunting telescope Kepler has discovered the first near-Earth size planet that is located in the "habitable zone" around a Sun-like star, NASA has announced. The planet, officially called Kepler-452b, is located 1,400 light-years away in the constellation Cygnus. It is 60 percent larger in diameter than Earth and is considered a super-Earth-size planet. But despite its size, the planet is only 5 percent farther from its parent star than Earth is from the Sun, and its orbit takes only 385 days. [press release attached]
