 2 yrs | 16-year-old girl injured in Jerusalem gay pride parade attack dies

              

Shira Banki, a 16-year-old girl who was injured when a religious extremist carried out a stabbing attack at the annual gay pride parade in Jerusalem, has died, Hadassah Hospital confirms. Banki had remained in a critical condition after being stabbed in the back during Thursday’s attack, which injured 5 others and was allegedly perpetrated by the same man who carried out a similar attack a decade ago. “Shira was murdered because she courageously supported the principle according to which everyone is entitled to live their lives in dignity and safety,” Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said in a response, adding that the attacker will be dealt with “to the fullest extent of the law.” [full statement attached]

 2 yrs | Jerusalem gay pride parade attacker is same man behind 2005 attack - reports

              An ultra-Orthodox Jew who allegedly stabbed 6 people at today's gay pride parade in Jerusalem is the same man who carried out a similar attack a decade ago, the BBC and Israel's Channel 1 report. Yishai Schlissel, who is 39 or 40, was previously sentenced to 12 years in prison for attempted murder after stabbing 3 people at the 2005 parade. He was recently released from prison. After the 2005 attack, he told police that he was on "a mission from God" to stop what he described as the "abomination" of gays marching through the city.

 2 yrs | 6 people stabbed at Jerusalem gay pride parade - medics

              Six people have been stabbed at a gay pride parade in Jerusalem as thousands took part in the annual event, ambulance service United Hatzalah reports. It said two of those stabbed are in a serious condition, while a third is in a moderate condition. Three others suffered minor injuries. Israeli media described the suspect as a religious Jewish protester, who was immediately taken into custody. Thursday's attack comes 10 years after a similar attack that injured 3.
