Company to end iPhone application as a result.
TILBURG, NETHERLANDS – August 26, 2010 – BNO News today announced it will further expand its focus on business-to-business services and will as a result end its iPhone application.
The iPhone application was launched over a year ago, in early August 2009, in addition to the popular “@BreakingNews” Twitter account that BNO News managed until December 2009, when it had nearly 1.5 million followers.
The application was quickly downloaded by thousands of Twitter users who already relied on news updates from BNO News through Twitter. In October 2009, TechCrunch.com named it the first out of three “Nifty iPhone Apps For News Consumption On The Go.”
TechCrunch at the time said the BNO News ‘breaking news’ iPhone application with customized push notifications is a “must-have for anyone who likes to learn about news near-instantly.”
Later, BNO News announced on November 23, 2009 that it would launch an international news wire service and transfer the management of the “@BreakingNews” Twitter account to MSNBC.com, in order for BNO News to focus on developing the wire service.
In January, BNO News launched its wire service that is exclusively available to media companies, internet websites, governments and other businesses. Since then, BNO News has seen an increased interest in its services and a steady increase of clients.
“In 2009 we decided to shift our focus and eventually offer our services solely to media organizations and other companies that want to make use of a news service,” said Michael van Poppel, President and founder of BNO News. “As our wire services are growing, our content is expanding, and our company is quickly expanding, we want to give our clients the full advantage by only offering services directly to them.”
“Our team has build an impressive newsgathering system over the past several years and we are now able to provide full daily news coverage to our clients. Our company is expanding rapidly, and just last week we welcomed a global sales manager to our team.”
“Unfortunately, only offering services to our clients also means we have decided to end our iPhone services. However, I would like to thank everyone who relied on BNO News through the iPhone application, as well as our loyal followers on Twitter.”
