Vitaliy Aleksandrovich Yuzhilin was born in the city of Chelyabinsk on December 10, 1965. However, his family soon moved and he grew up in the Black Sea port city of Sevastopol, Crimea. Inspired by the setting, he became an active swimmer, and later moving into competitive swimming, he would spend hours in the pool every day.
