The dismissal follows special counsel Jack Smith&#8217;s request to drop the charges at the federal level.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The opinion, authored by District Court Judge Tanya S. Chutkan and posted on Monday, states that the dismissal was granted under Rule 48(a) of the Federal Rule of Criminal Procedure, which allows the government to dismiss an indictment with leave of court.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This follows Smith&#8217;s request to dismiss the four federal charges against Trump for his efforts to overturn the 2020 election.
