The aircraft was able to land safely.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The incident occurred on Thursday while the aircraft was conducting operations over the Palisades Fire in Pacific Palisades, the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) reported.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe hit a drone this afternoon, first one,\u201d said L.A. County Fire Chief Anthony Marrone to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.latimes.com\/california\/story\/2025-01-09\/drone-collides-with-firefighting-aircraft-over-palisades-fire-faa-says\">Los Angeles Times.<\/a> \u201cOur Super Scooper hit a small drone.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The FAA announced that it would launch an investigation into the incident, indicating that interfering with firefighting efforts is a federal crime punishable by up to one year in prison and fines of up to $75,000.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\"><p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">PHOTO: Firefighting plane damaged after colliding with a drone over the Palisades Fire.<br><br>The plane is grounded because of the damage. It also clarified, &#8220;The FAA has not authorized anyone unaffiliated with the Los Angeles firefighting operations to fly drones in the TFRs.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Temporary Flight Restrictions (TFRs) were implemented over the Palisades Fire to prevent dangerous situations that could jeopardize firefighting efforts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Palisades Fire has become the most destructive wildfire in Los Angeles history and one of the most devastating in California overall.
