{"id":51532,"date":"2025-02-20T17:03:01","date_gmt":"2025-02-20T22:03:01","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/bnonews.com\/?p=51532"},"modified":"2025-02-20T17:04:59","modified_gmt":"2025-02-20T22:04:59","slug":"u-s-designates-mexican-cartels-as-terrorist-organizations","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/bnonews.com\/index.php\/2025\/02\/u-s-designates-mexican-cartels-as-terrorist-organizations\/","title":{"rendered":"U.S. designates Mexican cartels as terrorist organizations"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>The U.S. Department of State has designated eight Mexican and Latin American cartels and criminal organizations as Foreign Terrorist Organizations (FTOs), according to Secretary of State Marco Rubio.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>On Thursday, Rubio <a href=\"https:\/\/www.whitehouse.gov\/presidential-actions\/2025\/01\/designating-cartels-and-other-organizations-as-foreign-terrorist-organizations-and-specially-designated-global-terrorists\/\">announced<\/a> the State Department&#8217;s designation of six Mexican cartels and two transnational criminal organizations as FTOs and Specially Designated Global Terrorists (SDGTs), following an executive order signed by President Donald Trump on his first day in office.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The cartels and organizations designated as FTOs and SDGTs are:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>C\u00e1rtel de Sinaloa (CDS)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>C\u00e1rtel de Jalisco Nueva Generaci\u00f3n (CJNG)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>C\u00e1rtel del Noreste (CDN, formerly Los Zetas)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>La Nueva Familia Michoacana (LNFM)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>C\u00e1rtel del Golfo (CDG)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>C\u00e1rteles Unidos (CU)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Tren de Aragua (Originated in Venezuela)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Mara Salvatrucha (MS-13, originated in Los Angeles, CA)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;The intent of designating these cartels and transnational organizations as terrorists is to protect our nation, the American people, and our hemisphere,&#8221; said Marco Rubio. &#8220;That means stopping the campaigns of violence and terror by these vicious groups both in the United States and internationally. These designations provide law enforcement additional tools to stop these groups.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Trump&#8217;s executive order aimed to &#8220;ensure the total elimination of these organizations\u2019 presence in the United States and their ability to threaten the territory, safety, and security of the United States through their extraterritorial command-and-control structures.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In response to the designation, Mexican President Sheinbaum announced plans to propose constitutional reforms prohibiting any foreign intervention in investigations and prosecutions without the authorization of the Mexican government.
