Three students were shot and another one was grazed when someone opened fire at Wilmer Hutchins High School in Dallas, according to local officials and witnesses, just over a year after another shooting on campus. Police are still searching for the suspect.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The incident began just after 1 p.m. on Tuesday when officers were called for an “active shooter” at the high school, which is located at 5520 Langdon Road in southeast Dallas. It’s part of the Dallas Independent School District.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The exact circumstances of the shooting were not immediately clear but witnesses reported hearing up to 7 gunshots. At least 3 people were shot, including a 17-year-old male student who was shot in the leg.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
“There was a lot of blood on the floor,” one student told reporter Steve Pickett. Other students said they heard screaming as people hid in classrooms or ran into hallways. Other students began calling their parents for help.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Dallas Fire Rescue confirmed that four people were taken to area hospitals, including three people who were shot and one person who was grazed by a bullet. One of those injured suffered serious injuries. The others are non-life threatening.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Police have yet to release information about the identity of the suspect, who remains at large and is believed to be a fellow student. It’s unknown what may have led to Tuesday’s shooting.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Officers began evacuating the school just after 1:35 p.m. as efforts were underway to make sure there were no ongoing threats on campus. Some of the students were seen exiting the building with their hands up.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Dallas ISD said the high school was secured by 2:12 p.m. and a reunification point was set up at Eagles Stadium. “Please bring a photo ID. We understand this is a difficult time and ask for your patience. Counselors are on site and available,” the district said in a statement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
