The percentage of pedestrians killed at intersections each year was calculated, while the total percentage of deaths between 2018 and 2022 was used to rank the states from highest to lowest.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>New York<\/strong> came first in the study with <strong>48.44% of pedestrians killed in fatal crashes at intersections.<\/strong> Out of 1,367 total pedestrians killed in fatal crashes from 2018 to 2022, 608 pedestrians were at an intersection at the time. 2018 experienced the highest percentage of pedestrians killed in fatal crashes at intersections with 51.87%, over half of all fatalities.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>New Jersey<\/strong> ranked second with <strong>41.64% of pedestrians killed in fatal crashes at intersections<\/strong>. 381 pedestrians killed in fatal crashes from 2018 to 2022 were at an intersection, out of 915 pedestrians killed in total. 2018 witnessed the highest percentage of pedestrians killed in fatal crashes at intersections with 46.82%.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Minnesota<\/strong> came third with <strong>37.89% of pedestrians killed in fatal crashes at intersections<\/strong>. Out of 227 total pedestrians killed in fatal crashes from 2018 to 2022, 86 pedestrians were at an intersection at the time. 2022 experienced the highest percentage of pedestrians killed in fatal crashes at intersections with 41.86%.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Utah<\/strong> ranked fourth with <strong>37.44% of pedestrians killed in fatal crashes at intersections<\/strong>. 73 pedestrians killed in fatal crashes from 2018 to 2022 were at an intersection, out of 195 pedestrians killed in total. 2022 witnessed the highest percentage of pedestrians killed in fatal crashes at intersections with 46.67%.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Nevada<\/strong> came fifth with <strong>34.29% of pedestrians killed in fatal crashes at intersections.<\/strong> Out of 385 total pedestrians killed in fatal crashes from 2018 to 2022, 132 pedestrians were at an intersection at the time. 2021 experienced the highest percentage of pedestrians killed in fatal crashes at intersections with 38.75%.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Other states in the top ten include <strong>Massachusetts, Colorado, Nebraska, Alaska, <\/strong>and<strong> Connecticut.<\/strong>&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>West Virginia<\/strong> came last in the study with <strong>48.44% of pedestrians killed in fatal crashes at intersections<\/strong>. Out of 128 total pedestrians killed in fatal crashes from 2018 to 2022, only seven pedestrians were recorded as being at an intersection at the time.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Michael DeMayo, CEO of<\/strong><a href=\"https:\/\/demayolaw.com\/\"><strong> <\/strong><strong>DeMayo Law Office<\/strong><\/a><strong>, commented on the findings:<\/strong>&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cIt is concerning to see such a high percentage of pedestrian fatalities that could have been easily prevented in these states. Intersections tend to be where many accidents take place due to requiring greater awareness as vehicles come from multiple directions.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cPedestrians should avoid crossing or lingering at intersections whenever possible unless there is a dedicated pedestrian crossing area nearby.
