Three police officers were killed and two others were critically wounded when gunfire erupted during a law enforcement operation in York County, Pennsylvania, according to state officials. The suspect was also killed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The shooting happened on Wednesday afternoon in Codorus Township as officers followed up on an investigation that authorities described as domestic-related, Pennsylvania State Police Commissioner Christopher Paris said at a press briefing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cI can confirm that the shooter is dead,” Paris said. “I can confirm that there were five law enforcement officers who were shot today, three fatality, two that were transported to hospital in critical but stable condition.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cWe have a very large investigative scene,\u201d he said, adding that the names of the officers and their agencies are being withheld until families are notified. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cOur hearts and prayers go out to the families of the deceased and the families to those officers who were wounded. The grief will be unbearable but we will bear it,\u201d Paris added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Authorities said the officers were at the scene in connection with an investigation that began Tuesday. Further details have not been released but officials said there is no ongoing threat to the community.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro called the incident \u201can absolutely tragic and devastating day for York County and for the entire commonwealth of Pennsylvania.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n
In the briefing, Shapiro noted the recent loss of York County police officer Alex Duarte and said Attorney General Pam Bondi had offered federal support. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThis kind of violence isn’t okay, we need to do better as a society,\u201d Shapiro said. \u201cWe need to help the people who think that picking up a gun, picking up a weapon is the answer to resolving disputes. We need to do better when it comes to mental health.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
