{"id":60130,"date":"2025-10-09T17:59:44","date_gmt":"2025-10-09T21:59:44","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/bnonews.com\/?p=60130"},"modified":"2025-10-09T17:59:44","modified_gmt":"2025-10-09T21:59:44","slug":"ny-attorney-general-letitia-james-indicted-on-federal-fraud-charges","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/bnonews.com\/index.php\/2025\/10\/ny-attorney-general-letitia-james-indicted-on-federal-fraud-charges\/","title":{"rendered":"NY Attorney General Letitia James indicted on federal fraud charges"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>A federal grand jury in Virginia has indicted New York Attorney General Letitia James on charges of bank fraud and making false statements to a financial institution, according to prosecutors.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>U.S. Attorney Lindsey Halligan <a href=\"https:\/\/www.justice.gov\/usao-edva\/pr\/new-york-state-attorney-general-indicted\">announced<\/a> the charges on Thursday. \u201cThe charges as alleged in this case represent intentional, criminal acts and tremendous breaches of the public\u2019s trust,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/storage.courtlistener.com\/recap\/gov.uscourts.vaed.583342\/gov.uscourts.vaed.583342.1.0_1.pdf\">indictment<\/a>, filed in the Eastern District of Virginia, accuses James of bank fraud and false statements to financial institutions. If convicted, she faces up to 30 years in prison per count, fines of up to $1 million each, and forfeiture of assets.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The indictment document, was returned by a grand jury and signed by U.S. Attorney Halligan. Its specific factual allegations remain under seal.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In a statement posted to social media, U.S. Attorney General Pam Bondi <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/AGPamBondi\/status\/1976398429086765196\">said<\/a>: \u201cOne tier of justice for all Americans.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>James <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/NewYorkStateAG\/status\/1976400103989764190\">called<\/a> the case \u201ca continuation of the president\u2019s desperate weaponization of our justice system.\u201d She accused President Trump of orchestrating the prosecution in retaliation for her prior investigations into his business and political activities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThis is nothing more than political retribution,\u201d James said. \u201cHe is forcing federal law enforcement agencies to do his bidding, all because I did my job as New York\u2019s attorney general.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>James added that her removal of a U.S. attorney who declined to pursue charges against her, and the appointment of one \u201cblindly loyal to the president,\u201d showed \u201ca great violation of our constitutional order.\u201d She vowed to \u201cfight these baseless charges aggressively.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A federal grand jury in Virginia has indicted New York Attorney General Letitia James on charges of bank fraud and making false statements to a financial institution, according to prosecutors.
