{"id":60267,"date":"2025-10-15T19:29:45","date_gmt":"2025-10-15T23:29:45","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/bnonews.com\/?p=60267"},"modified":"2025-10-15T19:29:46","modified_gmt":"2025-10-15T23:29:46","slug":"dozens-of-journalists-walk-out-of-pentagon-over-new-media-rules","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/bnonews.com\/index.php\/2025\/10\/dozens-of-journalists-walk-out-of-pentagon-over-new-media-rules\/","title":{"rendered":"Dozens of journalists walk out of Pentagon over new media rules"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Journalists covering the U.S. Department of War walked out of the Pentagon on Wednesday after their credentials were confiscated amid an ongoing dispute over new media access rules.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In a statement, the Pentagon Press Association said badges were seized from reporters representing \u201cvirtually every major media organization in America\u201d after they refused to sign the War Department\u2019s new press policy. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cIt did this because reporters would not sign onto a new media policy over its implicit threat of criminalizing national security reporting,\u201d the association said. \u201cMake no mistake, today is a dark day for press freedom.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Washington Post Pentagon correspondent Tara Copp <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/TaraCopp\/status\/1978574323213291880\">shared<\/a> footage showing dozens of journalists leaving the building with their belongings.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cToday the Pentagon Press Corps handed over our badges and walked out in unison in defense of the First Amendment,\u201d Copp wrote. \u201cIt\u2019s an unprecedented attack on the public\u2019s right to know and the end of one of the most professional press relationships in D.C.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The walkout follows days of dispute between the Defense Department and major U.S. media outlets, nearly all of which refused to sign the new policy by Tuesday\u2019s deadline. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The policy bars reporters from seeking or publishing information not explicitly released by the Pentagon and allows the department to label journalists \u201csecurity risks\u201d and revoke access.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Only One America News has agreed to sign, according to The Washington Post.
