U.S. forces have carried out a new strike that destroyed a vessel allegedly operated by the Venezuelan criminal group Tren de Aragua, killing six people, according to Secretary of War Pete Hegseth. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The operation was authorized by President Donald Trump and marks the first nighttime strike in the administration\u2019s widening campaign against drug cartels, Hegseth said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Hegseth added that the vessel was traveling along a known narcotics-smuggling route in the Caribbean Sea and was \u201ccarrying narcotics\u201d when it was targeted in international waters. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cAll six terrorists were killed and no U.S. forces were harmed,\u201d he said. \u201cIf you are a narco-terrorist smuggling drugs in our hemisphere, we will treat you like we treat al-Qaeda.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Assistant Secretary of War Sean Parnell said<\/a> the Gerald R. Ford Carrier Strike Group has been redeployed to the U.S. Southern Command\u2019s area of responsibility to expand operations against transnational criminal organizations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to NBC News<\/a>, the U.S. has conducted 10 strikes on suspected drug-carrying vessels since early September, killing at least 43 people. Eight of those operations took place in the Caribbean Sea and two in the eastern Pacific.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Reuters<\/a> reported that President Trump said his administration will brief Congress on the ongoing operations and indicated that ground missions against cartels could follow. \u201cI don\u2019t need a declaration of war,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The escalation comes amid heightened tensions with Venezuela, whose president, Nicol\u00e1s Maduro, has been accused by Washington of protecting Tren de Aragua and other criminal networks. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Trump recently said Maduro had \u201coffered everything\u201d as U.S. military and intelligence activity around the country has intensified.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Overnight, at the direction of President Trump, the Department of War carried out a lethal kinetic strike on a vessel operated by Tren de Aragua (TdA), a Designated Terrorist Organization (DTO), trafficking narcotics in the Caribbean Sea.
