Uunona, who has long acknowledged the controversy surrounding his name, said he is removing \u201cHitler\u201d from his official identity documents.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The elections were held on Wednesday in the Ompundja constituency of the Oshana region, where Uunona has served as a councillor since 2004. Namibia\u2019s Electoral Commission has not yet released the official tally, but he secured a wide margin of victory, according to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.euronews.com\/2025\/11\/27\/adolf-hitlers-namesake-triumphs-in-namibia-local-elections-fifth-time-in-a-row\">Euronews<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Uunona, 59, has said his father named him without understanding the historical significance tied to Adolf Hitler. \u201cAs a child I saw it as a totally normal name,\u201d he previously told media outlets.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In an interview with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.namibian.com.na\/namibias-adolf-hitler-changes-birth-name\/\">The Namibian<\/a> on Wednesday, Uunona said he no longer wants to be known by his birth name and has formally removed \u201cHitler\u201d from his identity document. He stated that he has no connection to Nazi ideology and prefers to go by Adolf Uunona.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cMy name is not Adolf Hitler.
